Maciej Tomasiewicz – Conductor

A graduate of the Academy of Music in Katowice, where he completed studies in Composition and Music Theory as well as Symphonic and Opera Conducting (Doctor of Musical Arts degree) under the guidance of Dr. Hab. S. Bywalec. He participated in Master Conducting Courses led by M. Dittrich, G. Chmura, J. Kaspszyk, and L. Livingston.

From 2014 to 2021, he was associated with the Archetti Chamber Orchestra of Jaworzno, both as a violinist and conductor. He successfully led the Polish Youth Symphony Orchestra in Bytom and the Karol Szymanowski Youth Symphony Orchestra in Katowice. He has assisted renowned conductors such as G. Chmura, M. Halls, M. Jurowski, J. Kaspszyk, M. Klauza, Ch. König, A. Liebreich, J. Maksymiuk, L. Morlot, T. Kozłowski, and A. Wit.

He worked as an assistant conductor with the National Polish Radio Symphony Orchestra in Katowice and the Grand Theatre in Łódź. He has conducted performances with leading ensembles, including the National Philharmonic Orchestra, Beethoven Academy Orchestra, Sinfonia Iuventus Polish Orchestra, Podlasie Opera and Philharmonic Orchestra, Polish Radio Orchestra, and the Kalisz, Silesian, Świętokrzyska, and Zielona Góra Philharmonics, as well as the New Music Orchestra.

He maintains a permanent collaboration with the Silesian Opera, where he conducted ballet premieres such as:

  • Scheherazade/Medea (music by N. Rimsky-Korsakov and S. Barber)
  • Sól Ziemi Czarnej (The Salt of the Black Earth), featuring music by Polish composers
  • Sekret Requiem (Requiem Secret) directed by M. Znaniecki

Additionally, he directed revivals of Puccini’s Tosca, Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker, J. Strauss’ The Gypsy Baron, Donizetti’s L’elisir d’amore, and Moniuszko’s The Haunted Manor.

At the Podlasie Opera and Philharmonic in Białystok, he conducted performances of Bizet’s Carmen and Puccini’s Turandot.

In the 2016-2017 season, he worked as an assistant conductor with Sinfonia Iuventus, and from 2019 to 2022, he was the assistant conductor to Andrzej Boreyko, the artistic director of the National Philharmonic Orchestra.

In 2021, he was honored with the “Meritorious for Polish Culture” award. From 2020 to 2022, he served as the artistic director of the Silesian Chamber Orchestra.

He has performed at festivals such as: Warsaw Autumn, Brand New Music, and La Folle Journée (Crazy Days of Music).

His diverse repertoire is deeply rooted in Polish music, and he has recorded works by R. Bukowski, H. M. Górecki, E. Knapik, K. Lipiński, P. Moss, and S. B. Poradowski. He holds a special appreciation for the works of B. Szabelski, with pieces like Etude, Sinfonietta, and II Symphony “Podlaska” newly edited, performed, and recorded under his direction. Additionally, Szabelski’s Magnificat has been reconstructed, published, and is scheduled for a world premiere in the upcoming artistic season.
